As our community grows, so does our pet population. To support the well being of pets, groups form to address various issues within our community. If you're a pet lover and you're looking for a way to get involved, check out the various groups available. All of them rely on the community at large to bring attention to the issues that face us so that we may bring change.

South County Animal Shelter (SCAS) Coalition was formed in response to the lack of a pro-humane animal shelter serving Aliso Viejo, Lake Forest, Laguna Hills and Rancho Santa Margarita.
SCAS is a coalition of four cities that have joined forces to establish a pro-humane animal shelter in their region.
These cities still maintain a contract with the old County Animal Shelter in Orange. The County shelter was built in the 1940's to service 200,000 people, but now attempts to service more than two million people.
SCAS Coalition's goal is to form a local pro-humane animal care facility where adoptable animals will not be euthanized because of space constraints.

How to Get Involved
1. Go to www.socoanimalshelter.org to sign up on our e-mail list so that you will be informed of our activities and opportunities for participation.
2. Write to your city council members and tell them it's time to replace the old county services with better animal care services for our cities. Go here to do this now.
3. Pass out SCASC fliers to friends and neighbors. Printable flyers are available on the SCAS website.
4. Attend city council meetings as needed to support this cause.
5. Vote out city council incumbents in November of 2008 who will not support this issue.

The Pet Rescue Center's goal is to work with the community and animal rescue groups to provide a
no-kill, temporary sanctuary for pets in need of a home. In this effort, we will
provide a safe, clean and caring facility to effectively enable rescued pets to find a
family. In addition, The Pet Rescue Center will allocate financial grants, as they are available, to assist families
undergoing financial hardship to provide lifesaving treatments for their pet.

How to Get Involved
1. Go to www.thepetrescuecenter.org and review the section about volunteers and current needs for the center.
2. Donations are needed in the form of money, blankets, handmade pet items to be sold to raise funds and auctions and raffle prizes.
3. Volunteers are also needed to walk dogs, clean cages, socialize with cats and dogs while at the center & help with fundraising events.
